Welcome to Personality Portfolios: enhancing the understanding of self and others through the Enneagram of Personality so as to improve personal and professional interactions. Portfolios are often examples of a person's work (drawings, paintings, photographs, etc) put together for easy presentation to others. A person's portfolio allows them to demonstrate their skill, experience and creative potential. In finance a portfolio represents the investments made by a person or organization. Diversity in each case is essential. A "Personality Portfolio" is NOT a folder OR a filing system, but rather a way in which a person "presents" to self & others. Using a personality typology called the enneagram of personalities, we see that this "presentation" is made up of particular gifts, strengths, limitations, liabilities, passions and potentials. The enneagram has been used by 72 companies (including Avon, Best Buy, Daimler/ Mitsubishi, Parker Hannifin and Toyota) from more than 20 countries spanning 5 continents. A "Personality Portfolio" contains a person's core values and beliefs which influence, and to an extent predict, where they may be prone to invests their thoughts, emotions and behaviors. Having access to all nine Personality Portfolios / presentation styles, a person can "showcase" the gifts, strengths and compentencies of their personality using any of the nine they wish. However, using the theory of the enneagram of personality, we begin to see that, when it comes to expressing our gifts, strengths and compentencies to others, we are habitually drawn to one presentation style / portfolio over the others. It is likely that your "go to" Personality Portfolio has opened up many doors for you. Yet at the same time, a closer look often reveals that an over "investment" in the thoughts, emotions and behaviors associated with that particular portfolio has shut many as well. Therefore, just as when we work with any portfolio, diversification (and here's where I can help) is the key. Diversification not only means developing a deeper understanding of ourselves so as to discover our hidden strengths, but also coming to see, appreciate and leverage the strengths others who can help us live in the the best version of ourselves. After all, our strengths are our strenghts...until they are not. Let me help you and / or your team members recognize your "go to" portoflios. Working with me you will begin to see eight other portfolios which you may have discounted. Not only will you will come to understand them as portfolios contained within your own, but also you will begin to see and appreciate them as the "go to" gifts of others integral to your team. And, in the process you will find that you develop, in effect, a "third ear" that enables you to truly tune into what those around you are saying, their wants, needs and desires. When we open the nine personality portfolios of the enneagram we discover unique ways we can tailor our speech so that a particular personality style actually hears what we are trying to communicate to them and vice versa. Obviously you want to reach as many persons as you can by communicating as effectively as you can. Some you will reach easily with the gifts, strengths and competencies within your own portfolio, your own style of speaking and being in the world. Yet others will miss out for the reason that you were simply not speaking their language. You missed or miss heard what they were saying. They will frustrate you or be frustrated by you, and both of you will lose out. Let me help you understand (on a level deeper than either the MBTI or DiSC) what makes up your "personality portfolio" and their's. You will learn the trappings and pitfalls associated with over investment in one "portfolio" and strategies for diversification as you function in organizational life. In addition to understanding the various personalities you encounter in your personal or professional life you will learn your own internal motivations and "hot buttons". You will discover a new way of listening to the way others speak so as not to take the things they say or do personally. And, you will begin to tailor your speech in a way that they can truly hear what it is you are trying to say. Contact me to learn more. |
